New Survey Site for Adders in Decline

KRAG have just started monitoring reptile populations in the centre of Maidstone.  Occasional sightings of wAdderater vole and the corridor for wildlife created by the River Len make Maidstone a slightly better town for wildlife than one might imagine.  This coupled with the large areas of green space provided by Vinters Valley Park and Mote Park amongst others provide habitat that just may be suitable for amphibians and reptiles.

Sightings of adder by local residents and an examination of some of the habitat nearby led KRAG to add this site in Maidstone to the list of sites monitored by the Adders in Decline Project.  Whilst slow worms have been seen on the site so far this year there has been no sign of the elusive adder.

Monitoring will continue for the rest of this year.  Watch this space for more details.
