Dunorlan Park Toads on the Move

Last Wednesday was a good night for looking for toadstoad.jpg.  After entering Dunorlan Park on a wet night feeling a bit peeved at having to survey in such awful weather I soon found myself in the midst of a toad torrent of biblical proportions.  There were toads everywhere I looked and all heading away from the lake that I was surveying.  I've not witnessed the mass movement of toads before so soon forgot all about the rain.  Treading carefully, I eventually managed to count 495 animals though I must have missed nearly as many.  It just makes you realise how important the Toads on Roads patrols are when these animals do decide to cross roads.  Fortunately, most of these animals looked like they were heading to the clumps of good quality terrestrial habitat that lay within the park, thoughtfully put there for wildlife by the park staff.
